Our TecTecTEc VPRO500 review answers the question. Is this the best budget golf rangefinder you can buy?
The TecTecTec VPRO500 golf rangefinder is advertised as the best budget golf rangefinder on the market. And delivers great technology at a fraction of the cost or your money back. In fact it’s ranked as the #1 laser rangefinder on Amazon.com with currently over 1600 reviews.
So if you’re in the market to buy a cheap golf range finder. How does the VPRO500 stand up against its competition?
Welcome. My name is Ian Allen. And as part of my quest to put together a buyers list for the Best Golf Rangefinder. In this article we will be reviewing the TecTecTec VPRO500.
You may have noticed with the recent release of the Garmin Approach Z80. That the market for rangefinders has been top news lately. After reviewing it I can agree that it is without a doubt the most advanced golf rangefinder on the market.
Yet with all the features it has, the Garmin Z80 comes at a premium price. A trend that not every consumer is happy with, nor, that everyone can justify.
Hence it is no surprise that the need for cheap and affordable golf devices is growing. And as we see market prices plummeting for the likes of laptops, tablets, phones and smartwatches. Is there really a need to spend all your hard earned cash on the big brands? And if we do. Are we getting value for money?
This question lead me to seek out the best golf rangefinders under 200 (dollars or pounds). The first of which is the TecTecTec VPRO500 Golf Rangefinder.
Who are TecTecTec
Maybe an obvious first question. Yet I like to buy products from companies I can trust. There is nothing worse than having that feeling that you’re buying a load of crap. And with the phrase, “You get what you pay for”, ringing in my ears. I wanted to be sure I was recommending a company that deserves your attention.
So I did some research. In fact I did a lot of research!
When TecTecTec founder and Company Director, Renan Lore, entered the golf business in 2010. He became dismayed with expensive production charges driving up retail and distribution costs. All which contributed to unfair prices for customers.
Great Customer Service
The result was Renan starting a new business. One with the customer in mind. A company grounded in world-class customer service. Aimed at providing superior products directly to the consumer.
This philosophy and approach is what gives TecTecTec the ability to offer the most competitive prices on the market.
Headquartered in Vannes,France with offices in Houston, Texas and Bali, Indonesia. The company firmly stands behind their laser rangefinder technology. Which is why they provide a 2 year warranty, along with a ‘love it or your money back’ 30-day full refund guarantee.
Since 2014. TecTecTec has been the pioneer in affordable and technologically advanced golf laser rangefinders. Each of their models feature ultra-clear, multi-layered optical lenses for excellent visual clarity. Along with a 6x magnification and diopter adjustment viewfinder. All ensuring golfers can easily lock onto any object and receive accurate yardage readings.

How Can a Golf Laser Rangefinder Help Me Play Better?
At the time of writing this TecTecTec VPRO500 review, I am the Club Captain of my local club. As such I get the opportunity to play with all levels of golfers on a regular basis. And the one thing that separates the good players from the average. Is that the good players know exactly how far they need to hit their next shot. Why? Because they use a distance measuring device.
A laser range finder is one of those things that these golfers cannot go to the course without. Yet if you still don’t use one, here are some ways that it will help you.
Does a rangefinder slow down the pace of play?
Not at All. The range finder will calculate the distances to any point in seconds which is vital in speeding up play. When using these devices. You will never have to waste any time trying to estimate the distance to where you want to play your next shot.
This makes your club selections quick and easy because you already know what range you want to hit.
Does the TecTecTec Compensate For Slopes Or Elevation?
Have you ever wondered what club to hit uphill or downhill to the green? Yep, me too. It’s bad enough when you struggle to hit uphill or downhill lies. But your problems get compounded when you select the wrong club.
Well, if you buy the best rangefinder with slope, such as the TecTecTec VPRO500s rangefinder. You will be able to get accurate distances to the pin. As the device takes into account the elevations when showing you the distance.
Although most club competitions and tour events do not allow this feature to be active. It will still add huge value to your game whilst playing in the monthly medal.
Slope compensation is something that is impossible to do relying on yard markers. If you would like to know which rangefinder have a slope feature. Then check out our other golf rangefinder reviews.
Will a Golf Rangefinder Boost My Confidence?
Yes. A golf distance finder will help to boost your confidence with every shot that you make. By eliminating any doubts about the distance to play. With fewer uncertainties when making a shot, you’ll be able to commit to the shot more fully. And since you already know the average distance from each of your clubs, you will be less likely to choke.
My TecTecTec VPRO500 Golf Rangefinder Review
TecTecTec produce nine range finders. Three are specifically marketed at the hunting niche. With the remaining six models targeted towards the golfer.
Of all the golf laser rangefinders available. The VPRO500 is the most popular model from TecTecTec. Holding the ‘Best Seller’ award within the range. In number two spot on the bestseller list. Is its cousin, the VPRO DLXS with slope technology. Although rated at slightly further in reading distance. It does come at a 30 percent price premium.
If you need the slope function on your golf range finder. Then the VPRO500s is the better choice of the two. It is exactly the same as the VPRO500 tested here today. Yet has ‘Slope tech’ and is 20 percent more money.
TecTecTec VPRO500 First Impressions
What’s in the box
When you open the box you may be mistaken for thinking something’s been left out. There is no unnecessary packaging or reading material included.
This isn’t surprising though when you then remind yourself that the whole company’s ethos is to keep any and all unnecessary costs down. They simply provide the best product at a price point where you would expect to find an affordable golf laser rangefinder.
In the box you get;
- TecTecTec VPRO500 Laser Rangefinder
- Hard Carrying Case
- Free CR2 3 Volt Battery
- Quick Start Guide
- Microfibre Cleaning Cloth
Lightweight and Portable
Once out of the box, and like me, thrown away the Quick Start Guide. The VPRO500 is very easy to use and handle.
Size wise the VPRO500 is smaller than its competitors. And at just 185g. The VPRO500 is only slightly heavier than the Precision Pro NX7. Yet only half the weight of the Bushnell Tour V4.
So whilst out on the course, the VPRO500 is one of the easier devices to handle.
Although lightweight and compact. The VPRO500 is not a softy. It is made from tough and durable materials.
The sleek and curvy design is shown off well by a smooth finish. With the top and base of the device, covered in a grippy material. So this won’t slip out of your hands in the wet.
Though not 100 percent waterproof, the VPRO500 does come with a rainproof body. So when it rains there is no reason not to use it for every single golf shot. Except maybe your putting!
Easy Target Acquisition
With a diopter adjustment viewfinder. You’re guaranteed a clear view whether you’re nearsighted or farsighted. Plus with premium quality, multi-layered optics. Sighting your target with the VPRO500 is quick and easy.
In addition to clear views. The viewfinder also has 6X magnification. A feature that matches all other laser rangefinders of any price range. Even the best rangefinder such as the Garmin Z80.
Once you are looking through the viewfinder. You’re introduced the VPRO500’s Pinseeker Technology.
I’ve been disappointed in other cheap rangefinders. Particularly with their accuracy when faced with flagsticks in front of wooded areas.
The Pinseeker feature on the VPRO500, has a ‘First Target Priority’ mode. This displays the distance of the closest object. Perfect for those times where you have trees or other obstacles behind the pin.
Another great feature is ‘Scan Mode’.
I found Scan Mode especially useful to check the distances to various hazards in front of me. On one of my courses short Par 3’s. The green is protected by four bunkers. In addition to these the green has two tiers, so it’s not an easy hole by any means.
Using the Scan Mode. I was able to look around the green and pick out the distances for each of the bunkers in just 10 seconds. Then I picked my strategy and with complete confidence, took my shot.
Range and Accuracy
The VPRO500 can be set to read distances in either yards or meters.
A handy feature if you’re lucky enough to go on golfing holidays with your mates. I certainly would have found it helpful when playing in Spain. My mental arithmetic, converting meters to yards wasn’t my strong point. In fact, nothing on my last trip was worthy of note. Moving on…
Where the VPRO500 does stand out as a budget golf rangefinder, is range and accuracy. Yet it’s not at all bad. And the VPRO500 certainly won’t disappoint you. It didn’t me.
The VPRO500 has a measuring range of 540 yards. And an accuracy of +/-1 yard. And whilst that’s half of the Bushnell Tour V4. The Bushnell is almost $200 more. Plus as the furthest I can hit my Driver is 280 yards. I didn’t feel its a compromise too far. No pun intended.
Accuracy at +/-1 yard is also less than the very best rangefinders. Yet I say again, I’m can’t hit my wedges within half a yard each time. So I would rather take what I have saved, and book a few hours of lessons.
As mentioned before. The only difference between the VPRO500 vs VPRO500s, is the PinSlope feature.
TecTecTec’s PinSlope Technology allows for slope compensation. This calculates the uphill or downhill elevation. And adjusts the distance to the target. By using the latest laser rangefinder technology. You can be confident you’ll have an accurate adjusted distance to your target every single time.
When buying any piece of technology, warranty is important. And with the VPRO500, you will have peace of mind in your purchase.
First of all you have the 30-Day Any Reason Money-Back Guarantee. The only stipulation is that if the return is not related to quality of the product. You have to pay return shipping costs.
Secondly you have the 12-Month Warranty. With this, all quality-related issues are eligible for reimbursed return and replacement. Customers must have purchased the item from an online retailer or be in possession of proof of purchase in order to initiate an exchange.
What are the VPRO500 Key Features?
- Compact and elegant design
- Rainproof body
- Diopter adjustment – Allowing for nearsighted or farsighted users
- 6X magnification – brings the target 6 times closer to you for improved viewing and target acquisition
- 540 yard measuring range – ensuring you will never be out of range of your target
- Accuracy +/- 1 yard – gives you the confidence to choose the correct club each and every time
- Pinseeker Mode – lets you accurately measure overlapping targets
- First Target Mode – displays the distance of the closest object

So what did I think of the TecTecTec VPRO500 Golf Rangefinder?
The main purpose of a golf laser rangefinder is to measure distance. With the VPRO500, you get that both quickly and accurately each and every time.
The optics are a little clearer on the Bushnell and Nikon Coolshot 80. Yet not by much and nothing you would notice unless you tested each one side by side. However when compared to other cheap and affordable golf range finders. The VPRO500 delivers equal quality.
On my course we have only 1 perfectly straight Par 4. With the VPRO500, I could easily focus on a flag at over 430 yards. A distance over which I could only drive the ball with the use of a buggy. So having a Bushnell that can read a distance over 1000 yards, seems a little unnecessary.
All in all if you want a Cheap Golf Rangefinder. One that’s reliable, robust and value for money. I would definitely give the VPRO500 rangefinder or the VPRO500s rangefinder with slope; A test drive on your local fairways.
If you don’t like it, then take advantage of the 30-Day money back guarantee.
Whether you fancy the VPRO500 or the VPRO500s with PinSlope Technology. Either model is simply a fantastic product. And take well earned places on my list of Top 10 Golf Rangefinders of 2018.
For certain, both the VPRO500 and VPRO500s are going to be extremely appealing to many people. And one of them has just written this review.
